The fish lantern is a Chinese intangible cultural heritage with a long history, dating back over six hundred years. The word "fish" sounds similar to the Chinese word for "surplus," conveying the auspicious meanings of "surplus year after year" and "abundance and surplus." Therefore, in the minds of the Chinese people, "fish" has become a symbol of happiness, fulfillment, and auspiciousness.

The Lunar New Year Festival atmosphere is getting stronger as the date approaches. For today's children, buying a readymade lantern is not difficult. However, isn't it more meaningful to carry a handmade lantern made all by themselves? In an effort to recapture the joy of childhood and experience the unique charm brought by traditional culture, the Six Arts Museum’s Arts & Crafts Center recently organized a special parent-child DIY activity to make fish lanterns.

Under the guidance of the teachers at the Arts & Crafts Center, amid laughter and joy, pairs of little hands busily worked on the fish lanterns. In no time, the colorful fish lanterns appeared before their eyes, filling the activity site with liveliness, warmth, and joy.
看起来小小的鱼灯笼
做起来可不简单
前前后后要经过30多道工序
扎框架、印鱼衣、裱糊、上色、
粘鱼尾、装底座……
哪一步都马虎不得
最后才能呈现活灵活现的灯笼
Although the small fish lantern may look simple, making it is quite intricate. It involves over 30 steps, including frame binding, printing the fish pattern, mounting, coloring, attaching the fish tail, and assembling the base. Each step must be carefully executed in order to present a lifelike lantern when it is finished.
小小鱼儿腹中有灯
孩子们做出来的
不仅仅是一件非遗手工作品
更是一份耕耘后的收获
希望孩子们心中
也能有一盏照亮人生的“鱼灯”

The small fish lanterns made by the children are not just intangible cultural heritage handicrafts, but also the fruits of their own labor. It is hoped that in the hearts of these children, there will also be a "fish lantern" that illuminates their lives, encouraging them to continually move forward.
