This past weekend everyone enjoyed spring breezes and warmer temperatures, and a number of families also came to the Six Arts Museum to join an intangible cultural heritage craft and traditional art class in which they were given an opportunity to make kingfisher hair clips.

翠,即翠羽,翠鸟之羽

点翠是中国传统的金属工艺羽毛工艺的结合

先用金或镏金的金属做成不同图案的底座

再把翠鸟背部亮丽的蓝色的羽毛

仔细地镶嵌在座上,以制成各种首饰器物

Kingfisher craft is based on traditional Chinese jewelry processing technology. It is a combination of metal technology and artistic feather technology.

First, use gold or gold-plated metal to make a base with various patterns, then put the beautiful bright blue feathers on the back of the kingfisher, and carefully inlay to make a variety of wonderful jewelry.

翠鸟国家级保护动物

因此现代人们用鹅毛、丝带等

染色后替代翠鸟羽毛制作点翠饰品

使点翠工艺得以传承

The Kingfisher has become a national protected bird. So, instead of using Kingfisher feathers, people now dye goose feathers, ribbons and other materials to make kingfisher jewelry, which helps to keep this traditional craft alive.

At Six Arts, DIY activity participants used dyed goose feathers to recreate this time-honored traditional kingfisher feather craft. Teacher Yan Zi first shared her knowledge about the kingfisher process, and then introduced and demonstrated the production process steps to the participants.

We believe that through this DIY handicraft activity held in the Six Arts Museum, participants not only obtained beautiful hand made hair clips, but also learned more about kingfisher feather craft. Parents and children experienced the intangible cultural heritage craft and had a good time together.
