Mr. Zhou Yongkang, professor of Oil Painting Preservation and Restoration from the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts (SIVA), and 3 soon-to-be graduates, visited the Six Arts Museum to present and discuss their dissertation proposals.

Professor Zhang Lan, Dean of SIVA and Mr. Mitch Dudek, Founder of the Six Arts Museum signed a cooperation agreement and held the inauguration ceremony of the “Teaching Practice Center”, which initiated the project that allows the exhibits in the Six Arts Museum to be provided for the students to study.

Mr. Mitch Dudek, Founder of the Six Arts Museum, and Mr. Chen Jie, Curator of the Six Arts Museum, visited SIVA and discussed with Professor Zhang Lan, Dean of SIVA and Mr. Zhou Yongkang, professor of Oil Painting Preservation and Restoration from SIVA in detail about the many opportunities to include the Six Arts Museum as a place to support the SIVA curriculum.

After more than four months, three students selected six pieces of art from the Six Arts collection. After pre-selection, searching for documents,confirming the objectives of the research and restoration and their means of approaching the project, they presented their dissertation proposal at the Six Arts Museum.

Under the professional guidance from both the school and the museum, the students analyzed the structures, components, and deterioration of the objects through the use of the school’s high-tech detection equipment, and then determined the restoration method.

来展示4件文物的修复工艺过程
取得文物修复科普效果
The students are expected to complete the restoration of the four art pieces of the Six Arts collection as well as the dissertation by May 2022.
They intend to display the restoration procedure via real objectives, images and models so that the public will have an opportunity to learn about relic restoration.

Professor Zhou Yongkang led the discussion, and Mr. Mitch Dudek, Founder of the Six Arts Museum, and Mr. Chen Jie, Curator of the Six Arts Museum, attended the dissertation proposals, listened carefully to the students’proposed research methods, and shared their insight and advice.

Mr. Mitch Dudek expressed appreciation to the students’ for their professional restoration projects, as he is very grateful that these items will soon regain their original appearance so that more people can appreciate the culture and artistic expression embedded in these folk art pieces. Mr. Dudek also expressed his commitment for Six Arts to continue to cooperate with SIVA to provide the students with more opportunities to study through the study and restoration of the art pieces in the collection.
