On January 12, 2022, Mr. Yang Mingyi, the famous painter born in Suzhou, and his wife, Ling Zi, paid a second visit to Lili Ancient Town and visited our museum, accompanied by Ms. He Zheng, Curator of Xu Beihong Art Gallery.

Born in Suzhou in 1943, Mr. Yang Mingyi graduated from Suzhou Art and Crafts Institute in 1962 and studied at the China Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing.
In 1987, he went to America, studied at and then graduated from the Art Student League of New York.

Mr. Yang Mingyi returned to China in 1999 and has resided in Beijing ever since.
As a National First Class Artist and member of the Chinese Artists Association, he is now the Deputy Director of Guoyun Wenhua Calligraphy and Painting Institute as well as the Deputy Director of Hai Hua Gui Painting Institute.

Mr. Yang Mingyi, China’s famous contemporary painter, is especially skilled at painting natural landscapes featuring the charm of the water towns in Southeast China.
Based on tradition, his paintings combine Chinese and western painting styles and feature pioneering modern Chinese ink paintings, which have enjoyed recognition both at home and abroad.

In 1978, Mr. Yang Mingyi painted The Festival at the Water Village and discovered the beauty of the Zhouzhuang water town, which won him the title of “The First Person Discovering Zhouzhuang”.

We had the great pleasure to host Mr. Yang Mingyi, who later had a warm talk with Mr. Mitch Dudek and presented him with an album of his paintings as a gift.
Six Arts will continue to make more efforts to share and celebrate the arts and welcomes more artists to visit us for cultural exchange.
